Advantages of Historical Dramas (edited version)

Advantages of Historical Dramas

Recently, various historical dramas have been broadcasted popularly. Some people don't like it because the dramas twist history in order to make the stories more exciting. Nonetheless, I'm sure historical dramas are beneficial for the following reasons.

First, historical dramas tell historical facts and interest people in history and tradition. For instance, ‘A Windy Painter’ which is a popular drama these days informs the viewers about the 18th century in Joseon dynasty. Also, people are fascinated with the popular black-and-white drawings of two historic painters, Shin Yoon Bok and Kim Hong Do. The pictures that viewers couldn't had seen in the literate history come into sight vividly. As people watch the amusing historical drama, they become more and more interested in painting genres and in the days of the corresponding time.

Another advantage of historical dramas is that it attracts tourists. Historical dramas usually build a set that resembles the streets and architecture of the past, and if the drama gets popular, the set becomes a famed tourist spot. An example of this is the set of ‘Dae Jo Young’ in Sokcho which lots of people have visited since the drama ended. If you visit there, you can not only see a model of a town of that time, but also go through the life and old customs of that time.

The most important advantage of historical dramas is that it could be the best advertisement for other countries. In case of ‘Dae Jang Kum’, it was exported to many foreign countries such as Japan, China, Iran, Hongkong, India, Taiwan and so on. Through the exported drama foreigners became much more interested in Korea and Korean traditional cuisine which appear on the screen. Some may visit Korea to see the set of historical dramas.

Besides the possibility of distorting the truth a little bit, historical dramas are very advantageous on account of the above three reasons. Therefore, producers should be encouraged to make more dramas based on thorough historical research and the audience should watch these without losing interest in reality.

Analects of Goethe

  • Self-knowledge comes from knowing other men.

  • The intelligent man finds almost everything ridiculous, the sensible man hardly anything.

  • The biggest problem with every art is by the use of appearance to create a loftier reality.

  • The deed is everything, the glory is naught.

  • The hardest thing to see is what is in front of your eyes.

  • Piety is not a goal but a means to attain through the purest peace of mind the highest culture.

  • The little man is still a man.

  • The human mind will not be confined to any limits.

  • Science arose from poetry... when times change the two can meet again on a higher level as friends.

  • Superstitioin is the poetry of life.

  • The man with insight enough to admit his limitations comes nearest to perfection.

  • The man who occupies the first place seldom plays the principal part.

  • The mediator of the inexpressible is the work of art.

Wise sayings let me look back into my life. These analects of Goethe tell his progressive spirit and as I read these sayings, also I could learn about much refined expressions.

"The human mind will not be confined to any limits." I like it most among the analects. Some limits may could restrict a deed, but couldn't control a spirit.

Advantages of Historical Dramas
Recently, various historical dramas are broadcasted popularly. Some people don't like it because the dramas twist history in order to make their stories more exciting. Nonetheless, I'm sure historical dramas are beneficial with the following reasons

First, historical dramas tell historical facts and interest people in history or tradition. For instance, ‘바람의 화원’ which is on air nowadays informs the audience the 18th century in Joseon dynasty and the popular black-and-white drawings of two historic painters, Shin Yoon Bok and Kim Hong Do through the pictures that couldn't be found in the literate history. As watching the amusing historical drama, people become more and more interested in the genre paintings and in the days of the corresponding time.

Another advantage of historical dramas is a attracting tourists. Historical dramas usually build a set filled with the streets and structures of the past, and if the drama gets popular, the set becomes a famed tourist spot. As an example, a lot of people have visited the set of ‘대조영’ in Sokcho since the drama ended. '대조영' is the name of a historical character who founded a country named 발해, in the late 7th century. So if you visit there, you can see a model of a town of that time.

The most important advantage is that it could be the best advertisement for the countries. To give an example, ‘대장금’ was exported to many foreign countries such as Japan, China, Iran, Hongkong, India, Taiwan and so on. Without the possibility of distorting the truth, historical dramas are very advantageous on account of above three reasons. Therefore, producers should be incouraged to make more dramas based on thorough historical evidence and audience should watch those without losing interests in the reality.

Beethoven Triple Concerto

Do you like classical music?

Well, since I entered an amateur orchestra club last year, sometimes I have listened some classical musics. Classical musics seem to be very boring and difficult for some people but it doesn't.

Beethoven Triple Concerto for Piano, Violin and Cello in C op.56 is one of my favorite classical musics. It is so fascinating, brilliant and splendid that when I listened this music at first, I became addicted to this right away. The above picture is the DVD which I owned. Daniel Barenboim,Yo-yo Ma, and Itzhak Pelman played the overwhelming music.
I wanted to upload any playing movie for the triple concerto but I couldn't find. If you have a chance, I surely recommend you to listen this music.

His novels that I have read were not only literarily worthy but also interestingly terrific. The book 'Blindness' was the first novel that I read among the compositions of Jose Safamago so now I'm really look forward its release.

Personal experience

Be on a Surgical Operating Table

In my childhood, I was very active and had a good sense of recreation. In the sand box, I ran and jumped very fast. I also climbed the jungle-gym pretty quickly. I used to hang around the playgrounds in my town almost everyday to have fun with my friends.

When I was 10 years old, my family moved to Ilsan. In the new town, I roamed on and on until the sunset. It was a bright autumn day on which the accident happened. I had looked for a new playground with my best friend and after an hour of riding our bicycles, we finally found a good one. We started to hang out together with some children who were already playing there. It was really exciting and joyful for a while.

I tried to climb up the slide in the playground, but unexpectedly I glided down and hit my chin on the edge of the slide. At first, I didn't feel anything wrong except a bit of pain. However the blood started to run down, and the children started to surround me and looked at me anxiously. The tears began to gather in some children's eyes. My best friend rushed to my house right away to call my parents. Unfortunately, they were not at home, yet my father came back soon.

Since it was Saturday afternoon, every clinic in the neighborhood wasn't opened and we had to go to the emergency room at the nearest hospital. Because the injured part was cut deeply, a surgical operation was necessary. The doctor put ten stitches on my chin. I felt very little pain during the operation thanks to the anesthetic but it was fairly disgusting experience.

Now, a tiny scar remains in the place of the wound on my chin and nobody can tell unless I show them. Nonetheless, I still remember the awful experience being on a surgical opertaion table. The feeling of being stitched for the part of my head was truly terrible. Anyway, I became to take a cautious attitude toward a risk after that day.

My recent addictions

What do you like to do recently? Well, I want to introduce what I am interested recently

First thing is carbonated waters like perrier, apollinaris, tynant and so on. Almost all the people around me doesn't understand it. They hate soda waters because of the taste. I like these, however, because of the taste. It tastes sourish, somewhat puckery and stung by carbonate. At first you may feel weird, but the more you drink it, the more you like it.

Second thing is an online game, Pmang Shanghai. You just put together the same majong pieces faster than the other gamers. It is very simple game but makes people addicted. I used to play this for several hours.

The last thins is a TV drama, The Artist of Wind. The drama is now on air every wednesday and thursday and it is about the two artists lived at the Joseon Dynasty period ; Shin Yun Bok and Kim Hong Do. They are well-known genre painters that the people who doesn't have any interests in the arts know. The drama is only a fiction made of the ideas from the fact that there is little historical records about Shin Yun Bok despite his fame and wonderful pictures. Thanks to the spendid acting of the leading act, Park Shin Yand, and the leading actress, Mun Guen Young, I expect every wednesday and thursday.

Painful weekends

Last friday I couldn't go to the university since I ached all over. At the friday, I left my home and stepped toward the Yong-San station. However, I felt a pain in my whole body - especailly in my stomach - so I had to return the house and absented myself from university.

unfortunately, I was sick and just stayed home for the weekends. Now I'm feelling much better, but still a little bit under the weather. The mid term starts next week and I hope that there would be no more pain.

Suneum, Amateur Orchestra

Playing the violin is one of my hobbies. Even though I'm not so good at performing, I really enjoy the time.

Suneum is an amateur orchestra club for the students majoring in oriental medicine in Kyung-Hee university. And I am a member of Suneum.

We hold a concert twice a year. Since everyone is very busy during the semester, we intensively carry out the practice for vacation. Three times a week, we meet at the university and practice for 5 hours ; The training for each part is for 2 hours and the rehearsal with the conductor is for 3 hours, also we have an intermission to take a meal for one hour.

At the end of the vacation, we went music camp all together and do hard training for a week. It is awfully hard, because the schedule is full of practicing except the mealtimes and sleeping hours. Moreover, we have an after party at nights and drink some alcohol.

However, I really like the Suneum. Though practicing is truly hard time for me, I am proud that I am a member of Suneum and I like all the other members of Suneum.

A Guy with a Strong Body, Strong Mind.

I met Andrew Kim in my English Writing class this semester. He is a junior majoring in law and just returned to the university after his military service. He has an older brother and a 12-year-old sister much younger than him. Though his family lives in Incheon, he resides near Kyung-Hee university.

Andrew is really fond of learning new things. In his leisure time, he usually searches information on the internet. He is interested in sports and discussions in particular, so he visits the Edge, a web magazine for cultural and social informations, and the SAP, a site for exercise-lovers. Even though he doesn't do anything like posting on the blog, he truly enjoys the time improving his knowledge by reading and digesting new information.

Since he has a fine physique, it is easy for you to guess that he likes to exercise. Andrew is very passionate about sports. He got training in boxing, wrestling and mixed martial arts. Moreover, he even participated in a combative sport tournament and got the third prize. Recently, he used to power-lift three times a week for more than one hour. His enthusiasm for exercises surprised me and made me reflect on my lack of interest in exercising.

The world community of nations and economy are the issues that he especially likes to consider and debate about. "What do you think about the economical crisis of the United States?" With twinkling eyes, he asked. Every morning, he looks for articles on social or business problems in the newspaper. With confidence, he talks about the FTA between Korea and the United States. Also, he is very intersted in the stock market, so he invested in stocks.

It was truly an enjoyable interview with Andrew. Andrew is a sociable, interesting and thoughtful person. Though he isn't sure of his future, I'm confident of his success since he has an optimistic life philosophy and a firm self-esteem. Thanks to the writing class, I was able to have a meaningful time with this nice strong guy.

A Short Essay

Writing about myself is pretty difficult thing to do. How can I explain myself well not with misunderstanding? It is really a big source of trouble for me. After worried about it so much, I finally decided to explain myself that I think, what I like and my dream. I think you might be see about me if you read these three things.

I sometimes be a capricious girl. Before a one second, I would like to hang around street and go eye-hopping, but suddenly I change my mind just to stay in home or cafeteria and have a tea break. However, I keep my promise very well. I always be on time and never be late. I am very quiet, yet make my voice and sometimes insist on it. I am lazy and I love the laziness of myself! Nevertheless, I always try to accomplish my goal and believe an effort is the best gift.

Because of caprice, the thing I like to do always change. I was interested in travelling, baking, reforming old clothes, making accessaries, computer games and so on. However, Usually after from one week to one month, it would not attract me any more. However, there are several things that I am interested in for a long time; reading books, playing the violin and eating delicious food. Especially, I really like reading books. It has been my only hobby since I was 5 years old.

I major in Oriental Medicine, so I would be a oriental doctor after graduation. It isn't my dream to be a oriental doctor, though. This is invaluable job helping people. What I really want to do is writing a novel, though. You might wounder why I'm majoring in Oriental Medicine. I had thought seriously upon this problem and I arrived at a decision that I would be a oriental doctor by profession and write a novel not for a pay. Both of these are and meaningful goals for me.

Still, it is difficult thing to say about myself. I told you that I make my voice, but I did that just the time when it is needed. I hardly say about myself, what I like and my dream. Now, however, I'm sure this is very important to present with courage and confidence. There is no body who can speak for me better than myself.

LOVE CAKE

As all the people around me knew, I love desserts; cakes, tarts, pies, and so on. Please let there be no misunderstanding about this. It is not sweet things, but desserts-especially cakes. I don't like awfully sweet things like a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallow or coffee containing a lot of syrup, a piece of japanese traditional confectionery(handmade rice cake; see the below picture) or anything with a lot of sugar. Also, I matter not the sort of a cake, but the taste. Well, I usually prefer fresh cream to butter cream and fresh fruits to iced fruits.
With a piece of cake, I love a cup of tea - green tea, black tea, herb tea and coffee. I usually take a cup of black tea with a cake and green tea with nothing or fruits. I have a keen sense of caffeine, so I drink a cup of coffee to be awakened and caffeinless herb tea before getting to bed.

Since I love a cake and tea, sometimes I search for the place selling a delicious cake or the special tea and visit there with my friends. It not only satisfy our appetite but also amuse and delight through the visiting process.

Happy with weekends

Finally, tiring weekdays have gone.

This week was the first week of this semester. I was tired and stressed out with studying after the summer vacation of leisure. Actually, I have to go to class till 9 o'clock and the last class is over at 6 o'clock every weekday. How awful this schedule is! Of course, I never wanted such a terrible one. It is just because of my majoring classes ; every day starts at 9 0'clock.

As you know, it is just the first week. It is pretty horrible just to suppose the days with homeworks, reports and examinations. I only hope that my professors don't want me to carry out numerous things.
